One of the largest off-leash areas in the city, Jose Rizal is located on the west side of Beacon Hill. Get ready for spectacular views of downtown, the Olympic Mountains and Elliot Bay. Sections of well-maintained cedar trails wind up at open areas where you can socialize or throw balls. During one of our last visits it was raining and hardly muddy at all. I like that! Plus there wasn't anyone there. Hot days are usually accompanied by a cool breeze.
So far, I have yet to meet many people or dogs during the weekday. Friends have cautioned me about a transient population that hangs out here, but Sparky and I have never been bothered. This park comes with picnic tables, restrooms and a play area for children. If you're looking for landmarks, it's right across the street from Amazon.com and up the hill from Safeco Field.
The park was named after a Filipino patriot, Dr. Jose Rizal.
