Mad Homes – An Art Exhibit
I saw the coolest art installation today, and you can too, through August 7th- it’s open daily, 12 pm -7 pm. It’s at Bellevue and Roy on Capitol Hill, and it’s four old homes that are slated for relocation or demolition – several artists have created temporary installations there that are pretty cool to see. Check out some photos:
This is a huge phoenix that swings from room to room; there are also a circular saw-like wave coming up from the floor, and a huge wolf popping up and down from another room’s floor – I didn’t see that one coming!
This one was SO striking – the artist had, starting at the front entry, sewn old clothes together to cover the floor, walls, stair risers, and ceiling, and used light colors to more mid-tones, that eventually ended in these dark colors.
Here’s the living room…
Here is the entry, with clothing everywhere – it was pretty impressive.
Here are some slide projectors that, every couple seconds, click over to a new set of random words; there’s a little couch behind them to sit awhile and watch if you want.
This room’s description is hard to convey with words and a photo – the artist must’ve used miles of string that attached to pins all over the room, that left the walls and came into the room too – they made these great images on the walls, and spiderweb-like mazes to walk through.
All this wood was taken from one of the homes, and reconfigured into a giant architectural detail – I certainly wish my yard was big enough to have something like this in it!
MadArt’s goal with this project was to “provide unexpected enjoyment and a distinctive educational experience for the neighborhood and visitors, while providing local artists a valuable and rare opportunity to create artwork.” I’m looking forward to the next one, and I hope you don’t miss this one!

"In 2000, Johnine and Gaile helped us find our first home. Since then, they (and Scott) have helped us buy and sell two more homes. They are experts at matching your style to what's available on the market and will never push you to buy something that doesn't fit no matter how long it takes." - Yip FamilyRead More...
